Jakob Armstrong, Kevin Judd and brothers Chris & Enzo Malaspina began playing music and recording as Mt. Eddy in 2017 and although the moniker was exchanged for Ultra Q in 2019 there’s a musical throughline that is more than hinted at by this album’s title. As a band Ultra Q is rooted in the post punk of The Cure & Interpol but filtered through the sonic sensibilities of Superdrag or contemporaries like Together Pangea and Joyce Manor. Their debut LP “My Guardian Angel” strayed more into epic shoegaze atmospherics to great effect and “Empty Eddy” represents a return to the more earthbound Punk in “Post-Punk” full of driving melodies and heart bound hooks.
