Tracy Chapmanis the debut album by American singer-songwriter Tracy Chapman, released on April 5, 1988, by Elektra Records. Recorded at Powertrax studio in Hollywood, California, the album saw Chapman discovered by fellow Tufts University student Brian Koppelman in 1987. He offered to show her work to his father but she initially dismissed it. After multiple performances, Koppelman found a demo tape of her song “Talkin’ ’bout a Revolution” which he promoted, leading to Chapman’s signing with Elektra.
Featuring classic singles Fast Car, Talkin Bout A Revolution, and Baby Can I Hold You, the album earned three Grammy Awards, peaked at #1 in several countries, and sold over 20 million copies worldwide. It continues to chart regularly and is one of the most successful female artist albums in history.
LP – This anniversary reissue, prepared by Chapman and original producer David Kershenbaum, is pressed on 180-gram vinyl sourced from an analogue master. The package also includes an insert of translated lyrics from the original international release.
