Since their debut “925” in 2020, Sorry have been working on a topography of allusions, quotes and false trails. in 2025, with “Cosplay”, they are tearing up the map and redrawing everything. An album as a masked ball: every character can appear here, living or dead, real or imagined. It is the work that liberates Sorry from themselves.
“Cosplay” feels like a playroom for pop-cultural ghosts. A Guided by Voices song mutates into a ballad about the dingy corners of fame, the world’s most famous cartoon character sneaks into the picture as a siren, theoretical physics becomes rock music that hits harder than any formula. Sorry have already tried out the new material live, first on their own UK tour, then as support for Fontaines D.C., and you can hear the mixture of self-assurance and cockiness that has grown in the process.
Reviews
COSPLAY lands as simultaneously their broadest and best album to date unpredictable, unnerving and all-encompassing. DIY Magazine
Asha Lorenz’s dreamy, deceptively casual vocals soften the sharp edges throughout and help foster an overall coherence even amid Cosplay’s outbreaks of giddy chaos. Uncut
Dressed to impress. Record Collector
Sorry remain excitingly unfileable with their third and likely best album to date. Simultaneously, though, theyre fast becoming one of the most reliably exciting pop-indie-rock-whatever bands in the UK today. The Line of Best Fit
