Rainbow Kitten Surprise’s third album, “How To: Friend, Love, Freefall,” is their major-label debut. The North Carolina quintet recorded the album in Nashville’s vintage studio with producer Jay Joyce, known for working with bands like Cage the Elephant and The Head and The Heart. The album showcases Ela Melo’s stylized, melodic speaking-rapping, mixing hip-hop, pop, and folk with rock, soul, and jazz elements. The album is brisk, with only two of its thirteen tracks lasting more than four minutes, ensuring that the songs make an impression without overstaying their welcome.
