Founded in Cologne in 1985, Pink Turns Blue melded atmospheric pop with European post-punk and Hsker D’s punk dissonance, establishing a foundation for darkwave. Vocalist Tom Elbern, formerly of Seltsame Zustnde, and Mic Jogwer (vocals, bass), along with Marcus Giltjes (drums) and Ruebi Walter (keyboards), gained traction through the club circuit and self-financed recordings.
Despite their grassroots success, they struggled to secure label support due to their refusal to sing in German and their serious tone, viewed as lacking the pop optimism executives desired. However, Elbern and Jogwer continued to collaborate until Elbern departed in 1987. The trio then connected with FunFactory! in Mnster, where manager Axel Seitz encouraged them to focus on a full-length album rather than singles.
Released in 1987 and remastered by Josh Bonati for vinyl through Dais,If Two Worlds Kissis a significant contribution to darkwave, offering a blend of melody, mood, and pacing, with each song adding to the overall journey. Their dynamic songwriting brought urgency to guitar-driven gothic rock, allowing upbeat tracks like Walking on Both Sides to share the same emotional weight as slower songs like When the Hammer Comes Down. Tracks like That Was You further showcased their rhythmic and melodic range.
Dais proudly presents the first official reissue of this classic deathrock/darkwave masterpiece. The limited vinyl edition features original artwork in 24 pt reverse board jackets with inner euro sleeves. It includes the bonus track A Moment Sometimes, not on the original release.
