• After Motown closed its Hitsville studios in Detroit, Gaye was initially reluctant to follow the label to Los Angeles, but he couldn’t resist the chance to work in Hollywood. In 1973, he moved to L.A. permanently. On Trouble Man, Gaye showed his skills as a composer in jazz and blues as well as a soul figurehead.
