• The band, founded in 1967, still has an exceptional status in the music scene. One reason for this is certainly the ever-present flute of frontman Ian Anderson, his distinctive voice, as well as the sophisticated songwriting of the band. While their first three albums already hinted at the band’s potential, it was with “Aqualung” in 1971 that the Brits perfected their very own style.
  On “Thick As A Brick”, released only a year later, the band went went one step further. It consists of a single song, which is spread over two LP sides. The arrangements are even more balanced, the transitions between the different song fragments much smoother and the melody line simply sensational. The lyrics of the song, which are in poem form (written by Gerald Bostock – Anderson’s alter ego), are carried by an instantly catchy and ever-recurring melody, so that despite all the instrumental intricacies that the album contains, there is always a common thread, on which one can orient oneself as a listener. The album reached number 1 in the American album charts and also had great success internationally.
  For the 2012 “40th Anniversary Collector’s Edition” the album was remixed by producer Remixed by producer Steven Wilson and personally authorised by Ian Anderson. With a remix, one often has the experience that the original character of the music is distorted, but Steven Wilson has not done that here, however, and this album, which was groundbreaking at the time, retains all of its charisma and character. Steven Wilson has broken everything down into its component parts and somehow completely dusted it off.
