• The soul singer Isaac Hayes is considered the forerunner of rap and hip-hop with his chanting. His songs have been sampled many times (including by Portishead, Jay-Z, Beyonc feat. The Weeknd). In 1971, he made his worldwide breakthrough with the theme song to the blaxploitation film “Shaft.” The groundbreaking singer died of a stroke at his Memphis home in 2008 at the age of 65.
  Now, Isaac Hayes’ most famous albums are being reissued on vinyl: “Hot Buttered Soul” (1969), “Shaft” (2LP / 1971) and “Black Moses” (2LP / 1971).
