• Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever’s “Hope Downs” is exactly the album promised by their two buzz-building EPs, “Talk Tight” (2015) and “The French Press” (2017). The album title, borrowed from the name of a giant open pit mine in the middle of Australia, refers to the feeling of standing on the edge of the void of the great unknown and finding something to hold onto. It’s a record that focuses on finding the bright spots in a time when cynicism too often feels like the natural state. Rolling Blackouts CF are here to remind us to keep our feet on the ground – and “Hope Downs” is as delicious a taste of terra firma as you can get from a rock band right now.
