Employing strings to craft a dark and dreamy soundscape, it spawned three single hits – Silver, Seven Seas & the all-time classic The Killing Moon – which frontman Ian McCulloch placed among the best songs ever written. The track hit #9 on the UK singles chart and is still used in films, TV shows, and more, including Donnie Darko. The album’s artwork was shot at Carnglaze Caverns in Cornwall, captured by photographer Brian Griffin, the same artist behind the visuals for the band’s three albums prior. Ocean Rain achieved #4 on the UK album charts, gaining gold certification and charting in the US.
