Released in 1973, the fifth album by the British heavy metal band really shows how theyve expanded their sound, adding strings, keyboards, and more intricate orchestral arrangements. It was so popular that it became their fifth consecutive platinum album in the U.S. and climbed to number four on the UK charts.

With Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, the band continued to develop their signature slow, heavy style, incorporating even richer orchestral elements. After touring worldwide in support of their Volume 4 album during 1972-1973, Black Sabbath headed back to Los Angeles, California, to work on their next record. Happy with the recording of Volume 4, the band decided to recreate that same creative vibe, returning to the Record Plant Studios with new producer and engineer Tom Allom to bring their vision to life.
