How do you top a multi-million breakthrough like Pearl Jams impactful debut outing, Ten? Whether they liked it or not, the Seattle unit were firmly in the limelight as one of grunge-rocks great hopes in the early Nineties. While they could have coasted by with another toweringly anthemic outing, Eddie Vedder and co. opted to get slightly weirder with their follow-up. Vs. is still home to huge guitar songs (Animal), but its not afraid to get tender and folky (Daughter), or mix politics with a Southern-funk hybridity (Glorified G). Vs. set a record for most albums sold in its first week of release, and remains a touchstone to Pearl Jams continued eclecticism.
