As one the most successful bands in the 90s metal scene, Machine Head changed their musical style from thrash to a more (dare we say it) nu-metal sound, incorporating rap vocals. The Burning Red is a musical experiment with disco drums (!), crooning vocals (!!), funky basslines (!!!) and a cover of Message in A Bottle by The Police.
Upon release in 1999, Machine Head was accused of being “sell outs” by a then infamously walled-off and conservative metal community. But times have changed, A whole new generation has embraced nu-metal, breathing new life into the legacy of The Burning Red, Don’t let the raps and funky drums distract you, metal is still the core of this album.
The Burning Red consists of 12 songs and is recorded at the Indigo Ranch Studios. It features Ahrue Luster on lead guitar, replacing founding member Logan Mader. Machine Head has sold over 3 million records worldwide, and is one of the pioneering bands from the American heavy metal scene. Since the release of The Burning Red in 1999, the only remaining original member is lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Robb Flynn.
The Burning Red is available on audiophile black vinyl.
